Meet Madhu

My name is Madhu Baker, I was born In 1973 in Jaipur India. I was the second oldest of five siblings that belonged to the priestly cast. Although we were born into a high cast sometimes life becomes more complicated than that. Although I acceled in academic studies at 10 years old my father lost our family home and his business tragically because he payed for his brother's heart surgery and medical bills although he died shortly after. After this devastating loss my mother sold her savings in gold that was saved for dowries to guarantee good husbands and used this money to build a home in a more remote and cheaper part of the city...

So the family moved into an even lower income neighborhood so I learned how to sow since my father was a tailor and although he could barely move he still taught me the art and I utilized that skill to buy material for dresses and start my entrepreneurial venture.

The business made 4 dollars a month instead of the 1 dollar a month cleaning, cooking and doing odd jobs. Using my skills and charisma I managed to employ and give opportunity to 8-10 local women that became my first employees while still going to school full time.

At this point I met an amazing women from Toronto named Donna and her husband Its who showed me the opportunities that resided with the English language. So I started to learn English... Due to the skills I was building I was able to go to a more tourist friendly city called Pushkar. Where I started working in the jewelry and clothing industry and sold camel rides. After my employer decided to stop paying me a friend from Switzerland named Anne gave me 2000 swiss Franks in order to start my clothing business.

After building my business up with my 65 year old business partner from England he ended up stealing the entire business because I refused to marry him. At 19 after losing nearly everything my friend Anne got me a plane ticket to Switzerland with 20$ in my pocket.

I then came back to India at 20 to find my sister dead from suicide. I decided to keep working in the jewelry industry and met the father of my son and dealt with extreme abuse for about 2 years and moved to Canada with him and my son.

After many business ventures I found my passion and purpose in real estate and became number 1 in Canada within 10 years. Last 2.5 years have been outstanding and have changed my life for better. Now I am more committed then ever to give back to not just our community but the community of incredible hard working realtors across the world.
